There are rules, so it's useful to learn how to pronounce the Past and Past Participles of Regular verbs.

Briefly: Pronounce "id" after sounds T/D (starTed , deciDed)
            Pronounce "t" after sounds: P/CH/K/F/Z/S/SH (lauGHed, switCHed, ...)
            Pronounce "d" after: Vowels and B/G/DG/V/M/N/R/L/ ... (caLLed, satisfIed, ...)
